„Incomplete Chinese editions of the first volume of ‚Capital‘ translated by Hou Wailou and others were published between 1930 and 1936. The first full translation appeared in 1938, by Guo Dali (1905-1976) and Wang Yanan (1901-1969)“ (Timothy Brook, Gregory Blue, „China and Historical Capitalism. Genealogies of Sinological Knowledge“, Cambridge University Press, 2002, p.131).

After the victory of the Communist Party over Kuomintang, Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed on 21 September 1942 the People’s Republic of China (PRCh). In the same year, the Translation Bureau of Marx-Lenin's Works was established which translated and edited scientific and technical works.

„Nach der Gründung der Volksrepublik wurde die Ausgabe von Guo Dali überprüft und mehrere Male wieder aufgelegt, so daß ihre Gesamtauflagenhöhe sich auf 300.000 Exemplare beläuft“ (Zhou Uangxun, „Zur Verbreitung des ‚Kapitals‘ in China“, “Beiträge zur Marx-Engels-Forschung”, Heft 28, 1989, p. 131).

„Während der mehr als 30 Jahre zwischen 1938-1972, bevor die neue Übersetzung des Instituts zur Herausgabe und Übersetzung der Werke von Marx, Engels, Lenin und Stalin beim ZK der KPCh herauskam, war das von Guo Dali und Wang Yanan übersetzte Kapital die einzige vollständige chinesische Ausgabe“ („Die Werke von Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels in China.
